Suspicious Minds 5 Sept 13

We were blessed with a slightly later start than normal this morning due to our shorter day. Flat plains alongside lush green wheat fields made for a welcome start. A short sharp climb with the sun beating down had us sweating our way into Lihi, predominantly a Buddhist area the trail is adorned with prayer wheels and Ghompas.

The first sighting of snow capped peaks was witnessed today with the Ganesh Himal treating us to a glimpse between cloud cover. The quaint village of Sho provided us with a little tea stop, Chris C entertained the local children who were mesmerised by his tattoos. Whilst trying to leave the village myself and Geordie were stopped in our tracks by four local children who blockaded the path to serenade us, they were then treated to a rendition of suspicious minds. Chris A cleared them out of the way as he roared around the corner scaring them off the trail. Brad had a near miss with a wood laden yak en route to Tibet, which came thundering along the trail stopping for no one.

Arriving at our accommodation for the evening the team had quite a wait for the bags, to entertain ourselves a wicket of sorts was set up. Jon, Brad, Chris C, Rob and Ben engaged in stone throwing! It wasn’t long before Tashi, Pertemba, Lhakpa, and Suring our HA (high altitude) Sherpas joined in. All was going well until sharpshooter Chris C managed to put a stone through a tent – guess which one he is having at base camp!

Chris A and Ben took a short walk up to a local Buddhist Monastery and school much to the delight of all the children eagerly greeting us with shouts of “Namaste” & “Tasha delay”.
