Expedition Support Staff

Our expedition to Manaslu would be extremely difficult without the excellent help from our support staff and climbing sherpas from Mountain Experience. Below is a snapshot of their impressive stories. We are fortunate to have such experienced backing.

Shyam Pun                         Sirdar & Cook

Shyam was born in Daulagiri, West Nepal and is 49 years old. Shyam is the Sirdar, the head of the group. He has been on 35 expeditions; his favourite is Everest on the Nepalese side. He has worked for Mountain Experience for 13 years. He is married to Deepa, and they have a daughter, Grima aged 9, and a son, Gana, aged 1. They live in Kathmandu.

Nima Sherpa                      Cook

Nima was born and lives in Solu Valley. He is 31 years old. He has been a cook for 6 years and his speciality dish is chicken sizzler, but he prefers to eat dhal bhat himself. He likes to listen to music when he can and prefers Nepalese pop music.

Purba Sherpa                     Cook

Purba was born in Okhuldunga, West Nepal and is 25 years old. He has been a cook for 7 years and has worked on expeditions for 5 years. His favourite meal to cook is pizza, and he likes indie music. Purba is single and lives in Kathmandu.

Tshering Tashi                   Climbing Sherpa

Tshering is 32 years old and was born in Khunde. He is married to Ang Kanchhi and they have a daughter, Sonam Dolma who is 21 months old. Tshering has been a climbing Sherpa since 2007 and has climbed Everest 4 times and Manaslu 3 times. He likes to play volleyball and his favourite food  is potato pancake or rikekur.

Lhakpa Nuru                      Climbing Sherpa

Lhakpa is 50 years old and has been a climbing Sherpa for 16 years. He has climbed Everest 5 times, twice from the Tibetan North side and 3 times from Nepal South side. He has also climbed Cho-Oyu and Manaslu twice. He is married to Pasi; they have a daughter Dora Zangmu and a son Pura Chetan. Pura is also a climbing Sherpa with Mountain Experience. The family live in Phorche, Khumbu and keep 6 yaks and 2 cows.

Tashi Cshering                  Climbing Sherpa

Tashi is 24 Years old and was born in Kumjung. He is married to Angfrue and they have a 9 month old son, Rikzen Sanbo. They hope Rikzen will be a Doctor when he grows up. Tashi started working as a climbing Sherpa in 2007 along with Tshering. He has climbed Everest 3 times, Manaslu twice, Cho-Oyu, Kamet and Ama Dablam. His favourite expedition food is Sherpa stew. At home he likes to watch Bollywood films and football on TV. Tashi supports Barcelona FC.

Phurtemba Sherpa          Climbing Sherpa

Phurtemba is 39 years old and was born in Phorche. He has been a climbing Sherpa since 2007 and has climbed Everest 6 times and Himlung. He is married to Nima Dorma, and they have 3 sons, Mingma Temba 12, Pemba Nuru 9 and Dawa Nuru 4. He likes to relax with his family when he is as home and his favourite expedition food is potato pancakes.
